Many people want to get out of Shanghai for a sample of the surrounding region, about 100km away. When Marco Polo visited Hangzhou in the 13th century, he declared it to be “the most beautiful and elegant city in the world". There is a popular saying: "Above there is heaven, below there are Hangzhou and Suzhou." Visitors are attracted to West Lake in Hangzhou and the
ancient gardens of Suzhou.

Day 1: Shanghai Hangzhou Meal: L

Depart from hotel in Shanghai and drive to Hangzhou. First stop is Lingyin Temple, a famous ancient Buddhist temple also known as Temple of the Soul’s Retreat. Enjoy lunch followed by a tour of a tea plantation to sample some of the best green tea in China and to see the antiquated process of refi ning tea.

Day 2: Hangzhou Suzhou Meal: B/L

Start the day with a leisurely cruise on the scenic West Lake before going to Flower Harbour (Huagang) Park to see the Red Carp. Afterwards drive to the small historical town of Wuzhen, an example of a typical water town, where you will have a cruise on its meandering waterways. In late afternoon, board a coach to Suzhou, referred to as the “Venice of the East” because it was built around a network of canals and bridges, which fan out from the Grand Canal. Suzhou is renowned for its charming gardens and canals.

Day 3: Suzhou Meal: B/L

Begin the day with a visit to Tiger Hill and the remarkable leaning Cloud Rock Pagoda built from A.D. 961. Finish the morning at the picturesque Humble Administrator’s Garden, the most famous garden in Suzhou. After lunch, a stop at the Panman Water Gate, an old water gate built 2500 years ago. Stop at the Number One Silk Factory to see the process and production of the fi nest silk in China before returning to the hotel.
